Original residents from the 1850s had a building supply house, blacksmith, creamery, grocery stores, dry goods store, funeral home, jail and a post office. There was an influx of Irish immigrants to the area. These skilled craftsmen probably constructed many of the stone fences and stone cellars found at many area farms. By the late 20th century, Verona’s commercial importance diminished, but many original residences still stand. Verona now has a mix of tranquility and rural living with access to urban conveniences. One finds small historic farm homes along with modern houses.
